The Trouble with Turnstiles (11 posts)

A place to discuss the new building security measures.

where is the donk we are stoning?

I propose a snafu/total clusterfuck. If we (entire student body) all exchange our id's with each other and use those when we enter/exit there's no way they could keep track of who's in the building or not. I doubt seriously that they'll be able to do it anyway but it would be good for team spirit to stick it to 'em.

ok, one question, does anyone know what time the last security shift in the building begins?
knowing that maybe saves us from going to smoke and be seen by this last guard, or walking around security camera areas, therefore avoid any confrontation about leaving… going rogue might be a solution to stay and work over scheduled building closing hours.. unless they knock on doors to kick ppl out, are they doing that?

The turnstiles are reset in the early am. Constantly swiping in (w/o out) won't work.

I was in the building late last night with Jaeeun and the guard came around right before one and told us that the gate was going down soon, but we stayed past one anyway because she had some cleaning up to do. He never seemed to come around again and tell us to leave… We just exited through the back door around 2. The guard was no longer at his post. Are they even still in the building – I think I may have heard that they leave and go on patrol around the campus?

I spoke with one of the guards tonight. They leave the building after 1-1:15 and go on patrol at 68th st. It is possible to exit the building through the rear door at that time, but it does trip off an alarm. They are then supposed to come down and check it out. If they get you on video tape exiting the building they are supposed to file a report on you which then goes to administration. What happens after that, nobody knows.

This is just a heads up about the security situation. The back door is not a good solution if you are planning on trying to stay late. There is an alarm and a security camera on the back door and night security can see anyone who leaves through the back door. They have been filing reports on everyone who has left the building for the past week through the back. There is no clear punishment policy yet, but it is my understanding that 68th st is currently developing a policy to deal with those who break the curfew.

Arrick mentioned in the list that he was having difficulty completing his projects due to the new security situation. I really think we should compile a list of complaints like this to make it clear that the curfew is affecting academic achievement. Perhaps start another letter campaign? We can send a list of these complaints directly to the admin like we did before. At least then they will know that the situation is difficult for students and that we are unhappy about the way that the new policy is working. With things going clandestinely like they are, we aren't making it clear that we aren't just being petulant, but we have real concerns about the policy.

Josh, Sounds good. Can we create a space on this website to submit the complaints/experiences with security?
